Russia Participated in Counter-Terrorist Operation During Military Training in Kyrgyzstan [Video]  

The rapid deployment collective forces of the Central Asian Collective Security Region of the CSTO conducted a joint counter-terrorism operation in Kyrgyzstan during the military training with the participation of the Kazakh, Tajik, Kyrgyz, and Russian military personnel, RIA Novosti reports. 

It is specified that the participants of the exercise conducted a joint counter-terrorism operation, practically worked out the issues of preparing and conducting combat operations to destroy illegal armed formations that invaded the territory of a conditional CSTO member state.

It should be reminded that the CSTO, or Collective Security Treaty Organization, is an international organization with the declared goals of strengthening peace, international and regional security and stability, protecting on a collective basis the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the member states (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan), the priority in achieving which is given to political means.

The joint exercise has started in Kyrgyzstan on September 7 at the Edelweiss training ground. It was attended by military contingents and operational groups of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, as well as operational groups of the joint staff and the CSTO secretariat, the formation of special forces and means of internal affairs bodies, bodies in the field of prevention and liquidation of the consequences of emergency situations, and the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan.

It is noted that the military attaches of many countries, as well as representatives of international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross in Kyrgyzstan and the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, observed the joint counter-terrorism operation at the final stage of the exercise.

In total, more than 1 thousand people and 150 pieces of equipment were participating, including tanks, armoured personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles, special Tiger vehicles, multiple launch rocket systems, Su-30SM fighters, Su-25 attack aircraft, and Mi-8 helicopters.
