Russia Revealed US’ Bioweapon Programmes Developed in Ukraine’s Laboratories

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that details of the implementation of military biological programs of the US and its NATO allies on the territory of Ukraine have become known. The UP-4 project was implemented with the participation of laboratories in Kiev, Kharkiv, and Odessa to study the possibility of the spread of particularly dangerous infections through migrating birds, including highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza, the mortality rate of which reaches 50 percent for humans.

The biological research funded by the US in Ukraine included the projects UP-2, UP-9, UP-10, aimed at studying the pathogens of anthrax and African swine fever. The UP-4 project was designed for the period up to 2020. Due to the fact that Ukraine has a unique geographical location where transcontinental migration routes intersect, 145 biological species were studied within the framework of the project.

In the course of the study, at least two species of migratory birds were identified, whose routes pass mainly through Russia, and information about migration routes through Eastern European countries was also summarized.

“Of all the methods developed in the United States to destabilize the epidemiological situation, this is one of the most reckless and irresponsible, since it does not allow controlling the further development of the situation,” the department noted.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the R-781 project was also being developed, where bats are considered as carriers of potential biological weapons agents. As part of this project, the study was conducted to find bacterial and viral pathogens that can be transmitted from bats to humans (plague and coronaviruses were considered among others). The analysis of the received materials confirmed that over 140 containers with ectoparasites of bats (fleas and ticks) were transferred from the biological laboratory in Kharkov abroad.

“With a high degree of probability, we can say that one of the tasks of the United States and its allies is to create bioagents capable of selectively infecting various ethnic groups of the population,” the Ministry of Defence stated.

The Ministry published the revealing documents that confirms the above stated information and the connection of Ukraine’s studies to its Western partners. According to the head of the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Protection Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, Igor Kirillov, 350 cryocontainers with blood serum samples were transferred from the Public Health Centre of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine to a reference laboratory for infectious diseases at Australia’s Doherty Institute under the pretext of determining antibody titers.

The Russian Defence Ministry has obtained documents confirming that the high-risk biological research in Ukraine is led by US specialists. According to Kirillov, the documents also showed that the US Defence Department funded the biological research in Ukraine.

He also said that Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland “indirectly” confirmed American participation in the Ukrainian biological research when she said that Washington was concerned about the Ukrainian biolabs being taken over by the Russians.

According to the available information, the Americans have already managed to evacuate most of the documentation from the laboratories in Kiev, Kharkov, and Odessa, including databases, biomaterials, and equipment to the Lvov Research Institute of Epidemiology and Hygiene and to the American Consulate in Lvov. It is also assumed that part of the collection will be moved to Poland.

The White House press secretary Jen Psaki has denied that the US is engaged in the development of biological and chemical weapons in Ukraine.

“This is preposterous. It’s the kind of disinformation operation we’ve seen repeatedly from the Russians over the years in Ukraine and in other countries, which have been debunked, and an example of the types of false pretexts we have been warning the Russians would invent”, she said.

According to Sputnik, Psaki claimed that Washington is in “full compliance” with its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Biological Weapons Convention and has no plans to develop or possess such weapons anywhere.

Instead, the State Department spokesperson Ned Price argued it was Russia that has been operating “active chemical and biological weapons programs,” though he did not elaborate or provide evidence for the counter-accusation, RT reports.

Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky for his part said that any biolabs in his country have no military dimension and are “focused on civilian science.”

In turn, Moscow’s deputy UN envoy, Dmitry Polyansky, announced the move early on Friday, saying the mission had requested a Security Council summit for today, March 11, while citing a Defense Ministry briefing claiming that the US and NATO allies ran “military biological programs” in Ukraine.
