Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev on Wednesday, March 23, received a note on the expulsion of 45 Russian diplomats from the country.
“I received a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the expulsion of 45 of our embassy and trade mission employees for activities that do not comply with the Vienna Convention,” Andreev said.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Warsaw had decided to expel about 40 Russian diplomats for the alleged “espionage”, as the country’s government considered them as those possessing a threat to the security of Poland.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian authorities will respond to Poland’s decision to expel diplomats. This statement was supported by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He called the case “a fall in all directions” in relations between the two countries.
