The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) demanded that the Tor browser delete “prohibited information”. Otherwise, the browser will be blocked in Russia.
Tor is a proxy server system that allows establishing an anonymous network connection that is protected from wiretapping. It is considered an anonymous network of virtual tunnels that provides encrypted data transmission.
“If the hosting provider or the site owner does not take measures to delete prohibited information on the Internet, a decision will be made to include the network address in the unified register, and access to it will be restricted,” Roskomnadzor said in a letter.
It is claimed that the “prohibited information” required for deletion is posted on the page dedicated to the Tor project. The source of the news did not specify what exactly the experts considered prohibited.
