Since April 18, the Bank of Russia has resumed the possibility of selling cash currency from banks to citizens. The permit applies only to the currency that has been received at the banks’ cash desks since April 9.
The central bank in early March, against the backdrop of Western sanctions and volatility in the financial market, tightened control over the circulation of cash in the country. The regulator banned the purchase of cash currency by individuals and limited its issuance from existing deposits to the amount of $10 thousand for a period of six months, from March 9 to September 9, 2022.
The fact that the Central Bank decided to soften the temporary order of operations with cash currency in the country was reported on April 8. In particular, the Bank of Russia canceled a 12 per cent commission on the purchase of foreign currency, and also allowed citizens to cash out euros from old accounts from April 11.
