The founder and CEO of the Wildberries online store, Tatyana Bakalchuk, has overtaken the world’s billionaires in terms of wealth growth in 2021. Just a year ago her capital was a billion dollars, but this year it has reached already $13 billion.
According to Forbes, Russia ranked third in the list of countries with the highest incomes among entrepreneurs whose fortune increased by $145 billion (+30 per cent) over the year. American businessmen earned the most, with their wealth increased by $945 billion (+23 per cent). The second place was taken by India, where the total wealth of billionaires increased by $210 billion (+41 per cent).
It is specified that the Russian rating also includes the creator of the Telegram messenger, Pavel Durov, who increased his fortune from $3.4 billion in 2020 to $17.2 billion in 2021.
As for Tatyana, she was born into a family of Soviet Koreans. She graduated from the Moscow State Socio-Humanitarian Institute, received a diploma of an English teacher and worked as a tutor for some time. In 2004, the woman gave birth to a child and almost immediately after that decided to start her own business.
In 2005, Tatyana and her husband founded Wildberries LLC, which, according to Data Insight, became the largest online store in Russia in 2020. In the same year, Bakalchuk topped the rating of self-made women in Russia according to Forbes Woman. In 2020, the turnover of Wildberries reached 437.2 billion rubles, and Forbes estimated Bakalchuk’s capital at $1.45 billion.
In 2021, Tatyana’s fortune increased by 800 per cent over the year and amounted to $13 billion as of August, while the total wealth of the richest women in Russia, according to Forbes (Russia), increased by $14.6 billion. In addition, since February 2021, she has become the owner of 100 per cent of shares in Bank Standard-Credit LLC.
