Russian Diplomats Help Countrymen Fly Home From South Africa

The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Cape Town, South Africa, is working on options for the departure of Russian tourists from South Africa, as stated by a representative of the Russian diplomatic mission.

“There are still seats on the charter flight, which departs from Cape Town on December 1 to Moscow. Consultations are underway with the organizers of the flight, and there will be more details in the coming hours,” the diplomatic mission says.

The press service of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Cape Town says that the Boeing 737-500 aircraft will make two refuelling stops in Uganda and Egypt. The flight to Moscow will take up to 16 hours. The organizers are ready to take on board up to 15 Russian tourists stuck in South Africa due to the appearance of the new strain of coronavirus in the country and the suspension of flights by a number of airlines.

One of the problems mentioned is also that airlines that continue to serve flights from South Africa have begun to sharply raise the prices for tickets. In addition, airlines from the EU do not sell tickets to passengers from countries that are not part of it. Nevertheless, several dozen Russian citizens have already flown from Johannesburg to other cities in Africa, from where they will be able to get home.
