Russian Figure Skater Trusova Won GP Skate America Women‘s Event [Video]

The first stage of the Skate America Grand Prix ended in Las Vegas, USA, with the victory of Russian figure skaters in two of the four sports. On the night of Sunday to Monday, October 25, the bronze medalist of the 2021 World Championship, Alexandra Trusova, got the victory in the Women’s Event with a score of 232.37.

As specified, Trusova came to the tournament with a leg injury, which she told herself about being already in the US. In the short programme, the figure skater and the coaching staff decided to abandon the next combat testing of the triple axel, the main element that is planned to seize leadership before the free skating. In Las Vegas, she coped without it beating compatriots Daria Usacheva and Ksenia Sinitsyna.

Trusova, the two-time world champion among juniors, at the control rentals of the Russian national team set the highest bar in the free skating, five fours. The Honoured Coach of Russia, Tatyana Tarasova, advised Trusova not to chase records every day, noting that “a record should be set once a year but at the right moment”.

However, at Sunday’s training, the athlete skated the programme with one quad-lutz, which has the highest value in figure skating and is considered the most difficult to master, (though qualified by Trusova as almost the simplest one). And in the evening, she made a high-quality lutz in four turns, without any following mistakes towards the victory.
