Russian First Christmas Tree Lit in Veliky Ustyug

Russian Father Frost lit the lights on the first Christmas tree in the country installed in his estate, located in the village of Morozovitsa near Veliky Ustyug in the Vologda region. The ceremony took place during the celebration of his birthday, TASS reports.  

The celebration is held annually on November 18 with the participation of fairy-tale characters from all over the country. This year, new programmes have been developed for the guests, such as an interactive excursion at Father Frost’s post office, an excursion to his fashion house, and the lighting of lights on the Christmas tree. The recording of the birthday broadcast can be seen on the official VK-Community of the Russian Father Frost.

It is also noted that on Wednesday afternoon, this year’s first tourist train from Kotlas arrived in Veliky Ustyug. The suburban train will run until January 31 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and every day on New Year’s and Christmas holidays. In addition, during the holidays, 19 tourist trains were formed from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Veliky Ustyug and other cities of the Russian North.
