Moscow will definitely react if the EU imposes sanctions against ‘Aeroflot’ Russian Airlines because of the refugee situation in Belarus. This was promised on Thursday, November 11, by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.
“Of course, there will be a reaction. But we are not surprised at anything at all, because the impression is that the EU, instead of entering into a dialogue with those whom it really concerns, prefers to immediately grab the sanctions club and thoughtlessly swing it,” Grushko stated.
After it became known that the authorities of the EU are discussing sanctions against Aeroflot as part of a new sanctions package against Belarus amidst the background of the migration crisis, the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov, suggested that Russia may consider banning the flight of Western airlines over the territory of the country.
According to Grushko, to solve the problems “that the EU is so afraid of,” we need not restrictions, but cooperation and dialogue. He warned that sanctions “will only worsen the situation in essence and create obstacles to the very possibility of a normal conversation”.
