Russian grocery stores have begun testing the payment system for goods using the Unified Biometric System, Izvestia reported.

Biometric acquiring can be implemented by the middle of this year. Holders of bank cards connected to the Unified Biometric System will be able to pay for goods by looking at the camera at the checkout counter. Any contact manipulations with a card, phone, or cash will not be required.
As indicated in Rostelecom, the operator of the Unified Biometric System, this approach is more convenient for customers. Rostelecom also said that there may appear a possibility of paying for purchases and services using biometric data at the vending machines, gas stations, fast-food chains, metro, and railways.
