The “Zircon” Russian sea-based hypersonic cruise missile completes its state tests. According to the Russian Deputy Defence Minister, Alexei Krivoruchko, serial deliveries of the products will begin in 2022.

“The state tests of the ‘Zircon’ sea-based hypersonic cruise missile are being completed. Its serial deliveries will begin in 2022,” Krivoruchko reported to Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu on the single day of acceptance of military products.
As explained to Izvestia by the retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin, the advantage of this missile is that it flies at a hypersonic speed of at least Mach 10. Such a missile cannot be detected or intercepted by any missile and air defence system. Another advantage is that it can be launched not only from surface ships but also from submarines. Thus, the expert said that Zircon launches from under the water at supersonic speed and accelerates to hypersonic in the air.
