The Russian national ice hockey team beat the Canadian national team in the opening match of the Channel One Cup. The meeting ended with a score of 4:3. The Russians played in a uniform with the inscription “USSR”. Egor Koreshkov, Alexander Yelesin, Nikita Nesterov, and Vadim Shipachev scored goals for the Russian team.

The Channel One Cup 2021 is the second of the four stages of the Euro Hockey Tour. The tournament is being held in Russia from December 15 to December 19, 2021. In total, five teams compete at the tournament. These are Russia, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Canada.
In the first match, the ice hockey players of the Russian national team took to the ice in a retro form made in the style of 1956 – the times when the USSR won the Olympics for the first time. The match with Canada was the first official game of the Russians under the leadership of Alexey Zhamnov.
It is noted that usually, Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Finland participate in the Channel One Cup. The Canadian national team joined the current tournament as part of its preparation for the Olympics. There were no NHL players in the Russian and Canadian national teams in the last match. Whether they will take part in the Olympiad will be decided later.
