Russian Paratroopers Conducted Joint Exercises With Egyptian Military

The final stage of the Defenders of Friendship exercise took place on Wednesday, October 27, in Egypt at the Wadi Sakran training ground in a desert area 60 kilometres east of Cairo. Paratroopers from Russia, together with their colleagues from the Egyptian armed forces, trained to act together performing practical landing on parachute systems of various modifications, practised non-parachute landing, conducted anti-terrorist training and combat missions in a desert area.

It is reminded that the Defenders of Friendship 2021 exercises are being held in Egypt from October 17 to 29, with the participation of more than 500 military personnel from Russia and Egypt. The joint exercise is conducted already for the fifth time: for the first time, they took place in 2016 in Alexandria, Egypt.

The operation against the imaginary enemy who captured the border village was launched by reconnaissance units that landed at a level of about 3,000 metres from Il-76MD aircraft. After they occupied the area, the military conducted a reconnaissance of the area, which was followed by the landing of equipment.

It is noted that during the active phase of the exercises, more than 200 paratroopers from Russia and Egypt made landings, including on guided parachutes of the wing system, from altitudes from 600 to 3,500 metres.

As specified, the exercises were observed by the Commander of the Airborne Troops of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov, the Commander of the paratroopers of Egypt Atef Mady, and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Egypt Georgy Borisenko.
