Women should not be faced with a choice between work and family. For this, all the necessary conditions are being created in Russia, according to the country’s President Vladimir Putin at the Eurasian Women’s Forum.
The President welcomed the participants of the forum and called it incredible that, despite the pandemic, women politicians, entrepreneurs, and public figures from more than 100 countries gathered at the event.
“It is quite obvious that in modern conditions a woman should not be faced with a choice – either children, family, or her own professional realization. We proceed precisely from this understanding, therefore, all conditions are consistently created in Russia so that a woman after the birth of a child can at any time start or resume her professional career, take place, achieve growth in the business that she likes,” Putin said.
Putin noted that the dynamically changing world poses new challenges to society, in which women play an increasingly significant role. Among such tasks, he mentioned the issues of sustainable economic development, the global climate agenda, as well as new approaches to education. Besides, the President stressed that women “with their increased understanding of the values of life, compassion, mercy have always had a special mission in healthcare”.
Finally, he stated that in Russia, there is a wide presence of women in government or in the entrepreneurial sphere. According to him, Russian women also make up the majority in the rapidly growing sector of the creative industry (more than 58 per cent), as well as in Russian science, where the proportion of women is almost 40 per cent among researchers.
The President reminded that there are vocational and advanced training programmes, which, among other things, can be used by women who are on parental leave. He emphasized that the government of the country has already done a lot to increase the availability of kindergartens and nurseries but also many things still need to be done to improve the situation.
“We will continue this work because it is important to solve the problem of each particular family,” Putin promised.
