A single test has been created in Russia, which makes it possible to determine the presence of one of eight viral diseases in a person, including influenza and COVID-19, the press service of the developer, Sistema-Biotech (SBT), told RIA Novosti.
“A scientific laboratory engaged in developments in the field of molecular biology, genetics and cellular technologies […] has developed a single test capable of determining in less than 30 minutes the presence of one of eight acute respiratory diseases transmitted by airborne droplets and causing mass infection of people: COVID-19 (regardless of strain), adenovirus, different types of influenza and others,” the release says.
Sistema-Biotech is a scientific and research laboratory created for the search and implementation of innovative medical and biological solutions in healthcare practice. The company was founded in 2018 and by the end of 2020, it had brought six developments to the Russian market, including COVID-19 diagnostic tests.
It is specified that oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal smears taken from the patient are used as samples for analysis. The study itself takes about 15-30 minutes and can determine the infection with an accuracy of 97 per cent.
“Our test makes it possible not to do eight different studies for the patient to determine flu separately, coronavirus separately, and so on, but by doing only one study, immediately determine which of the eight respiratory infections is present in the body, and do it very quickly. This allows a doctor to prescribe therapy in a timely manner and reduce the risk of complications for the patient,” the CEO of the company, Artyom Sirazutdinov, said.
