Researchers from the Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis of the Russian Academy of Sciences have developed a method by which useful alcohols and ethers can be extracted from effluents from petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries, reports Tsargrad.

“This is relevant for our country, which occupies a leading position in the extraction of natural gas — alcohols and ethers,” the Russian Science Foundation said.
Experts said that such substances can be used as additives to motor fuel in order to improve its quality. Researchers reported that substances are extracted by using a special membrane. The first experiments showed that such a technique is three times more effective than existing analogues; moreover, a new method is cost-effective.
