The General Designer of the Russian Aerospace Defence Concern ‘Almaz-Antey’, Pavel Sozinov, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the topic of developing “super-missiles” abroad does not create problems for his specialists because Russians are “able to do everything”.
It is reminded that Trump, as president of the United States, reported on the development of “super rockets”, referring to hypersonic missiles, the speed of which was declared by the American side at the level of 17 speeds of sound. Speaking about this, the Russian concern’s General Designer explains that any hypersonic target can fly to the target at its maximum speed only at high altitude, and as it approaches the object, the altitude decreases, enters the atmosphere, and loses speed, which means that any hypersonic missile, both existing and potentially created in the nearest future, is “within the capabilities” for Russian specialists.
“In fact, we have been living in a “hypersonic reality” for a long time. In particular, almost all the ballistic missiles that we are working on have hypersonic speeds. The missiles of our anti-aircraft systems, for example, are capable of developing hypersonic speeds, this is also not news. The topic of developing “super-missiles” abroad does not create any significant problems for us. We know how to develop further in this area,” Sozinov said.
The expert also noted that the concern’s specialists plan to develop small-sized anti-aircraft missiles to defeat mini- and micro-drones (it is specified that these works are financed at the expense of the concern).
