The Head of the State Duma Committee on Social Policy, Yaroslav Nilov, said that a bill to raise student scholarships to the minimum wage level will be submitted to the State Duma this year. According to the official, the initiative will be finalized so that the funds are included in the draft federal budget for next year.

Nilov stressed that the size of the scholarship should encourage students. At the same time, the current amount of scholarships, according to Nilov, is not scholarships at all. Speaking about the amount of payments comfortable for young people, the deputy noted that the minimum wage or the subsistence minimum established by the regions should be the minimum.
Earlier, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education, Yana Lantratova, proposed to raise the amount of scholarships for Russian students to the minimum wage too.
“Even if a student receives all possible types of scholarships, their total amount does not exceed the minimum wage, which from June 1, 2022, is equal to 15,279 rubles,” she explained.
