The Russian men’s national swimming team won gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the European Aquatics Championships which takes place in Budapest, RIA Novosti reports.
It is specified that the Russian athletes, Martin Malyutin, Alexander Shchegolev, Alexander Krasnykh, and Mikhail Vekovishchev showed a time of 7 minutes 3.48 seconds in the final. The second place was taken by the UK team (+1.13 seconds) and the Italians took the third (+2.57 seconds).
In addition, Russian swimmer, Kliment Kolesnikov, won a gold medal in the 100m freestyle. The athlete swam the distance in 47.37 seconds and set a record for the European Championship. The previous tournament record belonged to Frenchman Alain Bernard (47.50, March 2008). The second place in the swim was taken by the Italian Alessandro Miressi (47.45), the bronze medalist was another Russian Andrey Minakov (47.74).
