Russian athlete, Daniil Medvedev, defeated Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinal of the ‘Australian Open’ tennis match with a score of 6:4, 6:2, 7:5. In the final on February 21, Medvedev will play with the first racket of the world, Serb Novak Djokovic who beat Russian Aslan Karatsev in the semifinals on Thursday, TASS reports.
It is specified that Medvedev became the youngest ‘Australian Open’ finalist since 2012. The last time tennis players met at the Final Tournament of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) last year, where Medvedev defeated all rivals and became the winner. Prior to that, he also defeated the Serb twice in two Masters events in Cincinnati and Monte Carlo.
Among Russian tennis players, Evgeny Kafelnikov (1999, 2000) and Marat Safin (2002, 2004, 2005) previously reached the ‘Australian Open’ finals.
