Russian Tennis Player Started ‘Australian Open’ With Victory

In the opening matches of the first round of the Australian Open, two representatives of Russia out of four passed. Diana Schneider, an 18-year-old debutante of the Grand Slam tournaments, will continue her performance, as well as a 26-year-old Karen Khachanov.

As specified, Khachanov defeated a Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles with a score 7:6 (7:3), 6:2, 6:0 in the first round of the Australian Open. The Russian athlete performs at the tournament under the 18th number. In the next round, the 26-year-old Russian will play with the winner of the match Sebastian Baez (Argentina) – Jason Kubler (Australia).

In the other match of the first round, Pavel Kotov lost to Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands with the score 6:3, 7:6 (7:3), 6:3. Anna Kalinskaya lost to American Danielle Collins with a score of 7:5, 5:7, 6:4.

As reminded, the total prize money of the “Australian Open” in 2023 is more than $53.4 million. The current winners in singles are Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who beat Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final, and Australian Ashleigh Barty, who finished her career.
