The IOC has published the lists of participants in the selection for the Olympic volleyball tournament, according to which, 24 teams will take part in men’s and women’s competitions. French teams are exempt from qualification – as representatives of the host country, they received a direct ticket to the Olympics.

At the previous Olympics in Tokyo (due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Games were postponed from 2020 to 2021), the Russian men’s national team reached the final, where they lost to France in five games (2-3).

For Russian women, the maximum reach was the quarterfinals, where the team lost (1-3) to the Brazilians. Those, in turn, later became silver medalists of the Olympic tournament, having been defeated by the USA in the final (0-3).

In February of this year, the IOC recommended that international sports organizations not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions under its auspices.
