Athletes from Russia won 25 awards at Wheelchair Dance Championship and took first place in the team event.
Wheelchair Dance World Championship (Bonn World Para Dance Sport Championships 2019 ) was held in Bonn, Germany. 225 athletes from 26 countries took part in the tournament. Russia was represented by athletes from Moscow, Naberezhnye Chelny, Omsk, Perm, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol and Tyumen. This is the first participation in wheelchair dancers in the world championship for three years after the lifting of sanctions against Russian Paralympics.
The competitions were held in 21 disciplines in various classes – duets (both athletes in wheelchairs) and couples combi (one athlete in a wheelchair, the other is not) competed in European, Latin American and free programs. In total 63 medals of various denominations were played. The Russian team won 25 awards, 13 of them in the assets of St. Petersburg athletes (7 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze).
For the first time in the history of the world championships in wheelchair dancing, competitions were also held among junior girls. The young Russian athletes from St. Petersburg successfully participated in the event. Anastasia Ponomareva won bronze, and Daria Popova took fourth place, but with a minimum difference in estimates – only 0.2 points.
