The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VTsIOM) presented data from a survey of Russians about how they see contemporary Russian writers. The most popular writers among Russians appeared to be Daria Dontsova (5 per cent), Boris Akunin (4 per cent), Zakhar Prilepin (4 per cent), Viktor Pelevin (3 per cent), and Tatyana Ustinova (3 per cent).
Experts have also found out that 66 per cent of Russians consider writers to be intelligent and smart, 57 per cent think that writers influence the minds and moods of people, 40 per cent believe that writers have a high aesthetic sense and sophistication, and 22 per cent are confident that writers tend to create great works and go down in history.
In addition, 33 per cent of Russians consider modern writers to be successful and wealthy, the same number of respondents (33 per cent) believe that modern writers are famous and popular people, and 21 per cent are convinced that writers have a high position in society.
