Russians Registered Drug for COVID-19 Pneumonia Treatment

On May 25, the Ministry of Health of the Rissian Federation registered the inhaled medicine “Leitragin” which is intended for the treatment and prevention of pneumonia which complicates the course of coronavirus infection, RIA Novosti reports.

It is noted that in August last year, the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA) received three patents at once as part of the development of “Leitragin”: on the treatment of COVID-19, on the prevention of pneumonia and severe complications, and on the use in combination with another medicine.

According to the latest WHO data, more than 170 million people have already become infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, of which about three and a half million have died, including from pneumonia. So, the creators stated that they had discovered new properties of the hexapeptide, the world’s first and only agonist of delta-opioid receptors which is used in practical medicine.
