Russians to Start Testing Domestic Analogue of Zoom

Russian schools have begun a gradual transition to the domestic platform ‘Spherum’, abandoning the Zoom application, NationNews reports, referring to Sergey Mardanov, the Deputy General Director of the Digital Education Joint Venture.

The expert noted that the Russian platform was created about a week ago. So far, it is used in the educational process as an alternative to the foreign Zoom. It is specified that 60 thousand people have already become participants in the national programme. Over 15 regions of the country have joined the test approbation.

In this regard, Mardanov expressed confidence that Russia will be able to replace Zoom in the educational sphere, that is, more than 50 million people will have the opportunity to conduct and take part in various online events.

“At the moment, up to 50 people can connect to one call. And this figure will be increased to ten thousand people. So far, our main focus is on schools,” the specialist explained.

In turn, Denis Maimistov, the expert of the State Duma Committee on Media, IT and Telecommunications, added that domestic Internet giants are able to create an analogue of a Western service in a short time, Tsargrad reports. According to the expert, the Russian authorities should create a favourable environment for developers, but not strongly interfere in the very process of creating programmes.
