Russia’s Defense Ministry to Provide Volunteers With Weapons, Equipment, and Medical Care

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will provide volunteer formations with weapons, military equipment, provisions, and medical care, as stated in the draft order of the country’s Minister of Defense, published on Monday, January 30, 2023.

“I order to determine: the procedure for providing volunteer formations with weapons, military equipment, material and technical means; the procedure for food, clothing and other types of provision, medical assistance to citizens staying in volunteer formations,” the text of the document says.

The draft order notes that the provision of volunteers with weapons, equipment, and logistical means will comply with the procedure established for military formations of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

As reminded, in November 2022, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, signed a law on the status of volunteer formations assisting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. According to the new norms, volunteer formations can be involved during the period of mobilization, martial law, in wartime, in the event of armed conflicts, during counter-terrorism operations and when using the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation outside the country. Volunteers, in particular, are subject to the status and benefits of military personnel under contract.
