The educational course on the game of lapta is designed for students from 1st to 11th grades, as announced on January 13, 2023, by the press service of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
The course, according to the plans of the department, will be included in physical education lessons. Special attention will be paid to the implementation of the module in school sports clubs.
“The module will allow schoolchildren to develop their physical skills, and will also contribute to the moral education of schoolchildren and students. While playing lapta, children learn to work in a team, to be proactive and decisive,” the press service of the Ministry of Education explained.
Russian lapta is a folk team game with a bat and a ball, one of the oldest national sports games. The first mention of it was found in the monuments of ancient Russian writing. Balls and bats were found in the layers of the XIV century during the excavations of Novgorod. Thus, according to the most modest estimates, lapta is at least 700 years old.
