In autumn, a preliminary national standard for school uniforms will be approved in Russia, Izvestia reported with reference to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The new requirements will apply to jackets, sundresses, trousers, and other items of clothing. The key criteria will be indicators of safety, fabric quality, and comfort.
It was emphasized that the standard will be voluntary. Currently, the concept of “school uniform” is not defined by law, and the category of things that are intended for educational institutions is not distinguished from children’s clothing. In this regard, manufacturers adhere to general rules in the production of goods. The idea of creating additional requirements for school uniforms was supported by the Russian Standard Service (Rosstandart), where it was noted that the preliminary national standard would be limited so that manufacturers could evaluate it in practice.
