University start-up studios for the development of student entrepreneurship, along with R’n’D-centres of business companies, will appear on the campus of six universities in Tomsk, TASS reported with reference to the Governor of the Tomsk Region Sergey Zhvachkin.
In 2019, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the regional administration signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and VEB.RF to build a 10,000-seat campus for all six universities in Tomsk, which will include engineering centres, technological coworking spaces, modern sports complexes, and food courts. The cost of its creation is estimated at 30 billion rubles. Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2022. According to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the federal budget will allocate 18 billion rubles for the project.
The Tomsk Region is one of the leading Russian regions in the formation of new models for integrating science with high-tech business and the real sector of the economy, as its governor stated. The development of the scientific centre will require a large number of new specialists, and training of personnel will have to begin at school age. In the immediate vicinity of the future campus, on September 1, a modern school for 1.1 thousand places will open. Mishustin also instructed to allocate funds from the federal budget for the construction of a new nursery-kindergarten for 280 children, which will be integrated into the educational environment of the school.
