“Our trade with Russia continues in many directions. Energy is undoubtedly one of the biggest items of expenditure, but it also concerns tourism and food. For almost 5-6 years, both leaders [Presidents of Turkey and the Russian Federation] expressed their intention to continue the path to trade in national currencies. To date, this has accelerated this process even more. During our recent meetings, an agreement was reached [on payment for Russian gas in rubles],” he said.

Thus, Donmez confirmed that Turkey and Russia have reached a consensus on this topic, and partial trade in national currencies has already begun between the countries.

As reminded, on September 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, during which he announced that an agreement had been reached on Ankara paying 25 per cent of Russian gas supplies in rubles.
