The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (UAZ) has officially confirmed the imminent appearance of a bi-fuel modification (petrol and compressed gas) of UAZ Pickup. The economical version of the pickup will be released on the market after the UAZ “Patriot” SUV, which will be the first to receive factory gas equipment, Motor.ru reports.
It is noted that both UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup with a CNG attachment (“compressed natural gas”) will be equipped with a 2.7-litre ZMZ-409051 engine that runs on both gasoline and compressed natural gas (methane). At the same time, the power of the car was reduced from 150 to 128 hp, and the torque, from 235 to 196 Nm. However, models with factory gas equipment will have a difference in the capacity of the cylinders. So, for the Patriot, it will be fixed (160 litres) and for the Pickup, it will vary from 100 to 200 litres depending on the chosen modification.
It is reminded that according to the results of the Q1 of 2021, 566 UAZ Pickup vehicles were sold in Russia which allowed this model to become a leader in the pickup segment. The analytical agency Avtostat clarifies that during the tests conducted in 2016, it turned out that the bi-fuel SUV UAZ “Patriot” is 24 per cent more economical than other models. This was possible, not due to lower consumption but thanks to more affordable fuel. At the moment when the tests were conducted the UAZ “Patriot” CNG mileage with a full filling of three cylinders (55 litres each) was 250 km.
