US Authorities Urged Americans to Avoid Travelling to Russia

The US State Department urges citizens of the country not to travel to Russia, according to the information its official website provided on August 5. In particular, the United States urged its citizens to refrain from travelling to the North Caucasus, including Chechnya and Mount Elbrus, allegedly because of “terrorism, kidnapping, and risk of civil unrest” there. The recommendation also touched on Crimea that is described as Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia.

A few days earlier, it became known that the United States had called on 24 Russian diplomats with expiring visas to leave the country by September 3. It was noted that almost all of them will leave without replacement, as Washington has suddenly tightened visa procedures. And yesterday, on August 5, the US State Department announced that family members of American civil servants can, if they wish, leave Russia.

"Do not travel to Russia due to terrorism, harassment by Russian government security officials, the embassy’s limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in Russia, and the arbitrary enforcement of local law," is stated on the Department's website.

"Do not travel to: the North Caucasus, including Chechnya and Mount Elbrus, due to terrorism, kidnapping, and risk of civil unrest; Crimea due to Russia’s purported occupation of the Ukrainian territory and abuses by its occupying authorities."

In the advice list that the Department gives the country’s residents in case they decide to travel to Russia, among “See the U.S. Embassy’s web page regarding COVID-19” and “Monitor local media for breaking events and adjust your plans based on news information”, there is also the lines that state “North Caucasus (including Chechnya and Mount Elbrus) – Do Not Travel”, “Crimea – Do Not Travel”.

"There is an extensive Russian Federation military presence in Crimea. The Russian Federation is likely to take further military actions in Crimea as part of its occupation of this part of Ukraine," the Department claims.

Evidently, the above-mentioned urges of the US State Department reveal the real attitude of the US government towards Russia, whose officials just recently spoke about their intentions of the establishment of peaceful relations between the countries of the world community. The urges make it obvious there is no interest of the USA in maintaining an open dialogue with Russia and developing the countries’ cooperation.
