The collective West shamelessly, rudely, and aggressively unleashed a hybrid war against Russia when it realized that plans to turn Ukraine into an “anti-Russia” had failed. This was stated on Thursday, September 1, by Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, at a meeting with students of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
“Today, the events that everyone is discussing, returning from vacations, are connected with what is happening around Ukraine, and to be honest, with the hybrid war that the collective West unleashed shamelessly, openly, rudely, and aggressively against our country when it realized that the plans to turn Ukraine into an ‘anti-Russia’, to organize on the Ukrainian territory a springboard for the military deterrence of the Russian Federation, have failed,” he said.
Lavrov stressed that the West tacitly condoned the fact that the Russian language in Ukraine was legally prohibited in the fields of education, media, and culture.
“And when [our warnings were] sounded about the inadmissibility, in fact, of agreeing with the coup d’état in 2014, about the inadmissibility of supporting the regime, which, having proclaimed Russophobic slogans, began bombing its own population on its own territory, and when eventually it was possible to reach the Minsk agreements in February 2015, these agreements opened the way to reach an agreement and close the mentioned problems, it turned out that neither [ex-President of Ukraine Petro] Poroshenko nor [President of Ukraine Vladimir] Zelensky were going to fulfill any agreements,” the Minister reminded.
He also recalled that at that time, the West was either silent or silently rejoiced, thinking probably, “How well we besiege the Russian Federation, creating such an anti-Russian state right on its border.”
“When they finally realized that all these years our conversations were not empty persuasions and requests, but reflected the fundamental interests of our state, now, you see, they have become hysterical and are trying with their unprecedented aggression and malice to compensate for their own inability, and to be honest – their own unwillingness to do business on this the planet on the basis of equality, mutual respect, on the basis of compliance with the principles of international law, primarily the UN Charter, which enshrines the principle of sovereign equality of states,” Lavrov stressed.
The Russian diplomat noted that the West is openly taking a course of abandoning international law and trying to impose a world order based on its own rules.
“They declared isolation of Russia as one of such rules. They will not be able to isolate us, they have already realized this. Already in European capitals there are words of recognition that sanctions do not work, that sanctions harm their authors more,” the Russian Foreign Minister said.
According to Lavrov, Western countries will not be able to weaken Russia, as no one has done in the past.
“The history of our state has known more serious stages when our role and place in the international arena caused our other partners, as we ironically call them, a desire to weaken Russia. I am convinced that this will not work, as it has not worked for anyone in the past,” he concluded.
