Wildberries Doubled Turnover in First Quarter 2022

Russia’s largest online retailer Wildberries in the first quarter of 2022 increased turnover by 95 per cent compared to the same indicator last year, to 289.2 billion rubles. The total number of orders increased by 128 per cent, to 288.7 million.

Wildberries is Russia’s largest online retailer. The company’s turnover by the end of 2021 increased by 93 per cent, to 844 billion rubles with VAT. In addition to the Russian Federation, Wildberries operates in a number of foreign countries.

The largest sales volumes this year were noted in the categories of clothing, footwear, and accessories (105 billion rubles, +79 per cent year-on-year), household and cottage goods (45 billion rubles, +131 per cent), children’s goods (32.1 billion rubles, +74 per cent), cosmetics and perfumes (28.3 billion rubles, +100 per cent), household appliances and electronics (28.1 billion rubles, +91 per cent).

The most dynamic growth rates were shown by the categories “plumbing” (+398 per cent), “everything for gardening” (+280 per cent), “goods for recreation and camping” (+266 per cent), “photo and video equipment” (+263 per cent), “smart home and security” (+248 per cent).

“Despite the period of increased demand, which peaked in February-March and comparable to December 2021, our logistics systems successfully withstood high loads, including due to the ‘uberization’ of HR, due to which we promptly attracted the necessary labor resources and delivered orders from entrepreneurs to buyers,” the Wildberries press service noted.

In the first quarter, the number of entrepreneurs registered on Wildberries exceeded 650 thousand. More than 136 thousand new sellers started working with the company, which is twice as much as a year earlier. About 90 per cent of them are representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, individual entrepreneurs, and self-employed.

New Wildberries facilities have been opened in seven regions of the Russian Federation. In the first quarter, more than 3.3 thousand partner pickup points of orders were opened, their total number exceeded 23 thousand.
