The regional competition of professional skills according to WorldSkills standards among reindeer breeders and fishermen has begun in the Nizhnekolymsky region in the north of Yakutia, TASS reports, referring to the methodologist of the Arctic College of the Peoples of the North Khristina Khristenko.
It is noted that the competitions are held in several directions, namely “Reindeer Breeder – Machine Operator”, “Fish Processing”, and “Technology of Reindeer Keeping”. Participants are divided into three age categories: schoolchildren, students, and retirees. Contestants must determine to which age and sex group a deer belongs, assess its fatness and determine its approximate weight.
According to Khristenko, the competition will also be held in the competence “Operation and Maintenance of Technical Means”. In particular, participants will show their skills in driving and repairing snowmobiles. In addition, the contestants will try their skills in processing scale fish, making minced meat from pike and fillets of frozen herring in vacuum packaging.
