The number of regions where experiments will be conducted on testing unmanned vehicles on public roads will soon increase to 11. Highly automated vehicles are also be allowed to drive on the roads of St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Moscow, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, the Republic of Chuvashia and the Krasnodar Territory, according to TASS Information Agency.
According to the company’s representatives, Yandex launched 100 unmanned vehicles on the road. Their testing is carried out in Russia, the USA and Israel. At the moment, they have travelled more than 2,300 million kilometres.
In August, the head of the company’s unmanned vehicles division, Dmitry Polishchuk, announced that Yandex was planning to increase its fleet of unmanned vehicles to 1,000 cars in a year and a half or two years. The press service of the company clarified that the expansion of testing is planned outside of Russia.
Yandex has been testing drones since the end of 2017. Since last August, in the territory of Innopolis (Tatarstan), the company’s drones operate as a taxi. At the end of 2018, the company received a license to test unmanned vehicles in Israel, and in January 2019 showed an unmanned vehicle at CES in the United States.
